This is my second year growing flax for making linen. Last year I grew enough flax to make a linen belt, and the whole project was so satisfying I wanted to repeat it again this year.
Linen is my favourite fabric to work with and has such a rich history going back thousands of years, and I love repeating the process and following what our ancestors would have done, just in my back garden.
I haven’t weighed my harvest yet but I don’t think my yield will be as high as last year. Whether that’s because of the heatwaves we have been experiencing this year or something else I don’t know.
